Poker is a card game played by two or more players. It is usually played with a standard 52 card deck, though some games add wild cards or other variant rules. Two to seven players can play poker, although the best game is four-player.<\/p>\n
A player has a choice of folding his hand, calling it or raising it. He must do one of these before the flop. If he does not call or raise the first bet, then he must \u201cblind off\u201d and lose his chips to the other players in the pot. If he calls or raises the first bet, then he must pay the small blind and the player to his left must pay the big blind. These forced bets keep players from always folding their hands before the flop and prevent them from losing their money when they have a weak hand.<\/p>\n
If he has a strong poker hand, then the player must bet on it to force other players to fold theirs and win the pot. He can also bluff, which is a great way to increase his winnings.<\/p>\n
A poker hand is ranked by its odds (probability). The highest poker hand is a Royal flush, which contains the ace, king, queen and jack of the same suit. There are other hands such as four of a kind, straight, and flush. If there are multiple hands that have the same rank, such as three of a kind and four of a kind, then the higher of the two wins.
