It is one of the most popular gambling games, and it can be played socially for pennies or matchsticks or professionally for thousands of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Poker consists of multiple rounds of betting, usually by using plastic or ceramic discs called chips. Players may &#8220;call&#8221; a bet, making a wager equal to the amount of the first bet; or they may raise, which means putting in more than enough to call.<\/p>\n<p>Each betting interval (round) begins with a player to the left of the button making a bet. Each player to the left, in turn, must either &#8220;call&#8221; the bet by putting into the pot the same number of chips; or they may &#8220;raise,&#8221; which means putting in more than enough to make a call.<\/p>\n<p>A betting interval ends when all but one player folds, or drops out of the betting. If a player drops out, they lose any chips in the pot that have put into it.<\/p>\n<p>If more than one player is in contention for a winning hand after the final round of betting, a showdown takes place. The hands are revealed, and the player with the best hand collects the pot.<\/p>\n<p>Most poker games use a normal deck of 52 cards, although some varieties are played with fewer or more.
