Lotteries were also used by several colonies during the French and Indian Wars. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts financed its expedition against Canada with the proceeds from its lottery.<\/p>\n<p>Although lottery tickets are relatively inexpensive, they can add up. In addition, the odds of winning are quite low. In one study, it was found that the chance of winning the Mega Millions jackpot was higher than the chance of being struck by lightning or becoming a billionaire. While lottery winnings can be exciting, winning the lottery can also make you financially worse off.
